V-Strom Rally 2025
November 2025 was the 2nd rally for NZ v-strom owners. This year it was based in Hanmer Springs with 2 loops, a step up from the inaugural 2024 rally in Taupo.
An uneventful ferry trip, but needed to put the wet weather gear on in Picton.
We had the usual pre-ride meet & greet at a pub to see who we would be riding with before heading back to our accom for a good nights sleep.

The first loop was across the Lewis Pass taking in Reefton, Inangahua, and Murchison before returning back to Hanmer Springs via Lyell and a stop at the Alpine Fault.

Another night at the pub and helping prop up the local hospitality businesses occurred.
The second day saw us head towards Kaikoura on the inland road, with a surprise stop at Rodin Cars for a personalised tour of the factory. No pics of inside sorry – top secret.

After a side trip up Mt Fyffe and lunch at Kaikoura we headed south towards Cheviot, with a break in Culverden. We caught the edge of a storm cell that hammered Christchurch, and yes, hail hurts. With the last stretch in sunshine back to Hanmer.
A debrief at a different venue on Saturday night, with everyone departing to all points of the compass on Sunday morning.
Bikes being bikes, my ride plans changed unexpectantly, with a night in Nelson instead of Christchurch, with the ferry home Monday.
All in all, a success.
The rally for 2026 is yet to be finalised, but it looks to be based out of Wairarapa with 3 loops on offer, being a loop for everyone on day 1, and a choice for day 2 – seal or gravel.
